内容記述 The purpose of this present study was to investigate the motivation of teacher-training students at
Meikai University. In recent years, there has been a great deal of social concern that the number of
candidates who take teacher employment exams has been decreasing. Increasing the number is an urgent
issue nationwide. Through this research, we first sought to understand the actual state of motivation for
learning English among current teachers’ training course students, and find ways to increase their motivation,
clues to increase the number of teachers’ courses in the future, and directions for guidance. The results of the
factor analysis in this study revealed a number of points. It was found that the teacher training course
students who were the subjects of this study were influenced to varying degrees by various motivational
concepts. Among these, the four strongest motivations were as follows: “intrinsic,” “ideal self who has
confidence in English,” “successful experiences and friends,” and “social environment.” Also, it was found that
the students in the teacher training course had a positive attitude towards learning English as a whole and
were able to attach strong meaning to it. However, at the same time, it was also discovered that many
students did not have sufficient confidence in their English ability.
