内容記述 | The professional development of faculty in higher education institutions is a subject of much interest. Governing bodies and policy makers in various countries are emphasizing the professional development of academics in terms of developing their pedagogical skills and abilities as well as investigating how this type of training translates into student learning outcomes. The present study investigates the state of professional development for foreign language educators in Japanese higher education institutions by adapting an analytic framework of major trends in faculty development and applying this framework to presentations of research papers at the Japan Association of Language Teachers (JALT) over six years from 2014 to 2019. The study reveals that although professional development for this group of educators is being addressed, further development is needed as there exist gaps between policy and practice in certain categories such as the theorization of PD as an academic discipline and the comparison of professional development trends and techniques in higher education institutions outside of Japan. The researchers conclude by suggesting areas for further investigation of the professional development of this group of educators. | |||||
