内容記述 | After English education was introduced in elementary schools in Japan, the issues of prolongation of English learning have arisen. Under such conditions, it is essential for junior high school students to continue to maintain high motivation to learn English. However, empirical studies have shown that many students tend to lose willingness to learn English in the 1st year of junior high school. Hence, it is meaningful for instructors to occasionally measure learners’ motivation to learn English for the curriculum design or class management. In this study, the authors attempted to develop a measurement scale on the motivations to learn English through the joint research project between Meikai Universityʼs Teacher-Training-Support Center and Adachi City. First, 22 items were prepared. Then, exploratory factor analysis(EFA) was performed to clarify the underlying structures, and three factors were extracted as follows; intercultural exchanges, career chievements, and self-directed learning. Then, the factor structure extracted by EFA was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis(CFA), and the results of CFA showed high model fits. |
