| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study was to investigate how junior high school students in Adachi Ward feel about English learning. A questionnaire consisting of 100 items asking about English learning was administered to 2,488 students from eight junior high schools in Adachi Ward. It was found that the ratio of students who like English is higher than that of a previous nationwide study. On the other hand, the ratio of students who are not good at English is much lower than the national level. The results suggest that the reasons why students like or dislike English have to do with their sense of self-efficacy. They also suggest that grammar-translation is still a favorite activity in English learning. In order to help them feel competent in English, students need a number of successful experiences of communicating in English in their classroom. Therefore, English classes should not be grammar-centered but communication-centered, providing plenty of opportunities for students to engage in communication activities. | |||||
