| 内容記述 | People feel that honesty is not always the best strategy to avoid undesirable outcomes. Japanese people not infrequently lie to others so as not to hurt their feelings, which is called an other-oriented deceptive motive. A common psychological feeling in such a situation is omoiyari（ altruistic sensitivity）. Based on the previous research by Kim et al.（ 2008） and Hara & Kim （2015）, which found only interdependent self-construal to be associated with deceptive motives, this study attempted to clarify the effects of interdependent self-construal on both other-face maintenance motivation and sympathetic performance motivation via omoiyari. Structural equation modeling showed that interdependent self-construal had a significant positive effect on both other-face maintenance motivation and sympathetic performance motivation. However, in the indirect effect analysis of interdependent self-construal on these two motives via omoiyari, interdependent self-construal showed a significant effect only on sympathetic performance motivation. The implications of the results of the hypothetical model for communication practice are discussed. | |||||||
