| 内容記述 | In our book titled "CEFR-based New Japan Standards: Guideline for Connecting English Education at Elementary, Junior High, High School,and University Levels"(2024) which was based on a research project called the "JS Project," we presented a list of language proficiency descriptors and the theory behind our framework, as well as practical teaching examples from elementary, junior high, and high schools. The JS Project was one of the pioneering practical studies conducted under the previous curriculum guidelines to adapt the CEFR to English education in Japan. Since then, new curriculum guidelines(announced in 2017 for elementary schools and implemented in 2020; announced in 2017 for junior high schools and implemented in 2021; announced in 2018 for high schools and implemented in 2022)have been implemented, and it is clearly stated that the CEFR, a global language education standard, is the cornerstone of English education in Japan. In addition, looking at Europe, the CEFR Companion Volume with New Descriptors (CEFR-CV), a supplement to the CEFR (2001), was published by the Council of Europe (CoE) in February 2018. Considering this background, this paper discusses the direction that the JS Project has taken since then toward developing second language (L2) pragmatic competence in Japanese learners of English. | |||||||
