In order to track improvements in reading speed, the researchers engaged two groups of first year Japanese university students (n=24 and n=11, respectively) in twice weekly in classroom speed reading sessions of 45-50 word articles at the students’ reading level over a 15-week period. Students’ reading speed was self tracked and recorded and the differences in average reading speed were compared. Initial findings indicate a slight impro vemen t in reading speed, with small differences between ability groups.
